The campus, begun in the 1960's, had deteriorated hardscape in need of renovation and ADA updates. The solution was a redesign of the main campus walk, scaling it down and making it pedestrian with only minor service and emergency access. This 1/4 mile brick walk is punctuated by five courtyards that serve as entries and gathering spaces. Each courtyard is designed with a different character, for the sake of interest, wayfinding and the incidental educational use of native plant materials. One courtyard is a main entry to the heart of campus; another is a meadow; a third has an informal green amphitheater; yet another extends an outdoor cafe into a plaza with extensive plantings.
Phase I is built.
